a Chinese meal is consisted of a couple of dishes. For home meals, this is
usually around 3 or 4 dishes. However, for more lavish dining during
special occasions like weddings, it may be up to a 10 course meal. The
dishes are usually accompanied by white rice, which is the staple food of
Malaysia. Utilities
used when dining in Chinese restaurants includes a bowl, chopsticks, and a
spoon. Other utensils may include cups, or a small dish for dipping sauce.
Foreigners who do not know how to use chopsticks need not worry, as most
Chinese restaurants offer spoon and forks as replacements. However, to
truly experience the Chinese culture, one should learn how to dine using
chopsticks. Chinese
cooking come in many forms, including stewing, steaming, frying, etc. All
the different styles have its distinct taste and feel, so you must try all
of them to truly appreciate the beauty of Chinese food. A
visit to a hawker center would allow you to see the master chefs at work.
There, you would be able to see how all those delicious food are prepared.
You would be able to witness the many techniques used by the chefs,
including the famous “throw”, where the chef would skillfully throw
everything in the wok into the air, and then catching them again. Believe
me, it’s a truly eye opening experience. Dining
in a high class Chinese restaurant however, would be a totally different
experience. Enjoy the exclusive atmosphere, while savoring the tasty food.
Foods not to miss while visiting a Chinese restaurant include the famous
Sharks Fins Soup, steamed fish, and beef fried with ginger. All in all, Chinese Food in Penang must not be missed when you visit the Pearl of Orient. With the diverse style of food available, there will surely be something for everyone of you. ![]()
