Malay Dances

Tari Payong (Umbrella Dance) 
The Payong dance begins with the male dancers enticing the female dancers who wave long scarves over their shoulders. The female dancers will gradually approach the male dancers and then they will dance in unison.

 


Tari Piring (Plate Dance) 
he Piring Dance is performed to show off the skill of the dancers in holding and balancing saucers in their hands while making great and fast movements.The dance is said to have originated from Minangkabau in Sumatra.

 


Rongeng (Festive Dance)
It is a popular dance at all festive occasions & functions. The couples sing & move in rhythmic motion to the beat of drums. 

 

 

Tari Liling (Candle Dance) 
The tarian lilin or candle dance is a graceful and dextrous dance which is performed by ladies. It depicts the story of a Sumatraun maiden who lost her engagement ring and searched for the lost ring till the dark hours of the night with the a candle placed on a plate.
